MSC Software Solutions is a division of MSC Enterprises, Inc. which has been in continuous operation since 1991.
MSC began building computing systems in 1991, providing solutions in various industries including equipment repair and maintenance, beef cattle operations, beef cattle breed registries, custom membership management software, facilities management (mail rooms and copy centers), and electronic document management systems.
In addition to building these systems, MSC has either hosted or participated in supporting many of these software applications for more than a decade. This is important for several reasons.
First, when a company builds software, and then directly or indirectly supports that software for a decade or more, the knowledge gained is vastly different, and far superior to that gained by only building software, and then moving on to a new project. While we are not always involved after delivery, the key idea is that we understand the implications of various approaches, and know how to avoid short and long term problems caused by poor design.
Second, the MSC staff has a wide range of knowledge, in disciplines ranging from complex application development to math intensive data science. We understand the entrepreneurial aspects of running a business, and the challenges of staying the course, year after year. We understand business concepts, communicate well, and recognize the great benefits, and considerable challenges, in dealing with different personality styles and leadership roles in the enterprise.
Third, vision can be considered the overarching reason for a software application. We have the insight to understand our customer’s vision, but we also have experience, knowledge and skills in the computing environment that supports a software application, beginning with the hardware, through the network layers and devices, to the application servers. Understanding the whole stack from the hardware all the way through to the people and vision is a powerful advantage in delivering quality systems for our customers.
